“Operations Manager Our hotel is very high profile. We had a room with bed bug problems. In our industry you need to be very discreet and don’t want a truck with bugs or the words exterminator showing up on it. Envirozone got rid of all our bed bugs with one application with their heat remediation. It was green and it worked – just like they said.” doug
“The only LICENSED company performing these treatments in Colorado, I had struggled with chemicals and sprays for over a year, they came in and in one day eradicated the problem. I highly recommend Envirozone for any bug related issues.” bananaconda

Africans were using mattresses made from bug-repelling plants to ensure a good night’s sleep
Did you know that almost 80,000 years before humans began using chemical sprays to control insect pests. Africans were using mattresses made from bug-repelling plants to ensure a good night’s sleep.
Now, we don’t recommend this practice since there is a better method using heat.
The finding, published in the journal Science on Friday, derives from 77,000-year-old plant bedding found in a cave in South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal province. The find is 50,000 years older than any previous prehistoric beds discovered. SOURCE: bit.ly/uFOsmq Science, December 9, 2011
Bed Bug Guidlines for Apartments Issued
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued guidelines on how to prevent and control bedbugs infestations for multifamily properties. Although these are HUD guidelines, many of these relevant best practices can be incorporated into an integrated pest management (IPM) program for bed bugs.
Among key provisions for apartment managers and/or rental property owners:
~ Perform documented inspections by a professional inspector or properly trained staff member during vacancies to ensure a bedbug free apartment prior to tenant move-in.
~ Voluntarily offer to have a resident’s furniture inspected by properly trained staff upon the resident’s move-in.
~ Require non-chemical treatment of furniture upon the resident’s move-in.
~ Offer, but not require, inspection or non-chemical treatment of used furniture added after move-in or non-chemical treatment of unpacked luggage when residents return from a trip.
Contact Envirozone for its exclusive, free Action Plan for Apartment owners and managers. We also provide non-chemical heat treatment solutions for bed bugs.
Additionally, Envirozone offers training programs for apartment staff and managers by certified trainers.
The above mentioned HUD guidelines are available on HUD’s website.
Many sick, 1 dead trying to kill bed bugs
“Bedbugs don’t make you sick, but the pesticides used to kill them can.”
This was the message of the recent AP article, written by Mike Stobbe. The article went on to point out that a government study, released in September 2011, found that “dozens of Americans have fallen ill from the insecticides, and a North Carolina woman died after using 18 cans of a chemical fogger” to keep the bed bug from biting her.
Misuse of chemicals or applying the wrong product is worse than having these tiny blood sucking insects. Bed bugs are wingless, reddish-brown insects that bite people, usually at night, to draw blood for their meals.
There is a better way to eliminate bedbugs. Envirozone pioneered the use of heat to successfully kill bed bugs.
Bed Bug Fast Fact: Why Insecticides Give Poor Results
Modern insecticides are proving to be ineffective against bed bugs.
For one reason, unless your pest control guy sprays directly on an exposed bed bug, not all adults or immatures will be killed during the conventional pest control service, because most are seeking shelter in small cracks or other out-of-the-way locations. What’s more, their pesticides can not penetrate the bedbug’s eggs; so in about three weeks, the bug guy will be back out to treat your home with more toxic chemicals to kill the new hatchlings.
Moreover, recently published research has demonstrated significant resistance in field-collected strains of bed bugs. Some experts believe that these low-residual pesticides are repelling bedbugs from treated areas. This suspected repellancy is compounding the bed bug problem by driving the bugs into deeper harborage.
Since bed bugs prefer to cluster in narrow cracks and crevices not much wider than the thickness of a credit card, finding them in any room is extremely difficult. Their shelter sites are typically close to the host, but can also be surprisingly as far away as 66 feet in areas you probably wouldn’t look. Identifying bed bug bites
Frequently I am told, “My doctor said these are bed bug bites.” This is one myth that should be put to rest early. Dermatologists explain that it is impossible for them to distinguish marks on the skin as having resulted from a specific insect species, such as spiders, chiggers, bed bugs, or other biting insects.
Bed bug bite reactions vary from person to person. Misdiagnoses are common, even by physicians. Although bed bug bite reactions will often appear as two or more bites, often in a straight line or triangle, this characteristic by itself can not be used to confirm that the bites were caused by bedbugs.
If you find suspicious marks, the best way to confirm that bites were caused by bed bugs is to have a trained professional conduct an inspection to uncover specimens of bed bugs, or discover other evidence of an active infestation.
Here are some other insect myths that need to be debunked:
The mosquito myths:
- Lemon dish soap and Listerine repel mosquitoes
- Ultrasonic devices repel mosquitoes
- Taking B vitamins repel mosquitoes
- Eating garlic repels mosquitoes
- Skin-So-Soft products repel mosquitoes
- Creating a bat or insect=eating bird habitat will rid your yard of mosquitoes
- Meat tenderizer calms an itchy bite
- Mosquitoes die after feeding
- Mosquitoes transmit the HIV virus

Electric Heat is better than Propane
Here is another reason that Envirozone’s electric heat system is better than propane treatments.
“Firefighters believe a bed bug exterminator accidentally started a Carthage, Ohio house fire on Sunday. Firefighters said the fire broke out at about 2 p.m. Sunday.
Rescue crews said the two-story home was engulfed in flames when they arrived. A battalion commander said the fire was sparked after the exterminator used a thermal extermination technique to rid the home of bed bugs.
Investigators said the exterminator was using propane tanks and heaters to do the job.” – 9News.com (May 17, 2011)
Our process is monitored by our trained technicians to ensure that heat levels inside the home are maintained at the prescribed 120 – 140 degrees. Our electric heaters have a safety feature that prevents them from exceeding 145 degrees F.

Study Says Bedbugs Spread Diseases
Here’s the latest news regarding bed bugs. A peer-reviewed study published Wednesday in a journal of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that bed bugs could play a role in disease transmission. In a tiny sample of bed bugs, collected from patients living in crowded conditions in an impoverished neighborhood in Canada, researchers found the drug-resistant bacteria known as MRSA.
Although there is no conclusive evidence to date that these critters transmit diseases, it still is best to have experienced professionals at Envirozone eliminate any possibility with our exclusive heat treatments. If you suspect bedbugs in your home, let our trained professionals inspect your home. There is no cost or obligation and our service is 100% guaranteed! Click here to schedule an appointment.
Who’s Responsible: Tenant or Landlord?
Denver is among the top 5 cities nationwide in the number of bedbug incidents reported. Will Colorado be next to pass its own legislation?
The Arizona Legislature cleared and sent to Governor Jan Brewer for her consideration legislation assigning various responsibilities to landlords and tenants pertaining to bed bugs in multifamily housing.

Beyond Pesticides
Envirozone was recently called on to give a presentation at a national forum whose attendees are concerned with the misuse of pesticides. Our presentation focused on our exclusive non-chemical approach to eliminate bedbugs.
This conference convened to promote strategies to protect the general public and included topics regarding scientific awareness of chemical hazards, gaps in knowledge and uncertainties of the use of pesticides. Beyond Pesticides works with allies for a future free of hazardous pesticides and collaborates with grassroots people and organizations to educate the public on pesticide hazards and promote non-toxic alternatives.
Envirozone founder and president, Scott Harvey, presented heat remediation as a viable option to conventional bed bug control. Envirozone promotes a uniquely green approach, utilizing best integrated pest management (IPM) practices to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Prevent Bed Bugs. Carry Garbage Bags!
You might think this sounds crazy but carrying garbage bags when you travel can reduce the risk of bringing bedbugs home with you.
I discovered this article that appeared in Travel Channel website that suggested, “if you’re staying in a hotel, inspect the mattress and headboard for dark brown spots and stains from bedbug excrement. Pull the mattress out from the wall and use a flashlight to search around any cracks or crevices. Then pull back all bedding down to the mattress and box spring and search for any small specks of blood or dark brown stains that are evidence of the presence of bedbugs. The next morning, check the sheets for the same spots to be sure you weren’t a bedbug host during the night.
Isolate your luggage and belongings from any potential sources of bedbugs. This means keeping your clothes and suitcase off of the bed, couch and other soft surfaces. The metal luggage rack comes in handy for luggage storage. Some experts recommend storing your luggage in the bathroom. The most extreme measure is also the most protective–travel with large garbage bags, and store your luggage inside. This prevents you from returning home with any carry-on passengers attached to you bags and belongings.
Inspect your belongings when returning home from a trip, and avoid dropping your suitcase on your bed or laying clothes on soft surfaces until you have looked everything over to be sure you don’t have any stowaway bedbugs.
Do some research before you book your hotel or rent a new apartment. While reviews on websites can be helpful, keep in mind that anonymous reviews aren’t always impartial and use your judgment. The Bed Bug Registry is a free public database reporting bedbug findings in hotels and residences around the US and Canada.”
Bed bug control can become a nightmare. However, if you do bring these unwanted hitch-hikers home, a heat treatment for bed bugs is the best solution to get rid of them.
